The Green Bay Common Council approved a Key Cafe vehicle-scheduling pilot intended to improve utilization of city vehicles and support a shared motor-pool approach.
Staff explained that GPS telemetry collects route and fault-code data while Key Cafe adds scheduling and availability information that departments currently lack. "The biggest difference is the availability of the vehicle," a staff representative said, noting the scheduling software would let departments assign and see vehicle availability instead of relying on informal knowledge.
Several alder members supported the efficiency goals but asked about budgeting for ongoing software costs. Alder Grant said the item should be considered for the regular budget because ARPA funds are finite. Staff and the mayor said the program's value comes from nimble funding to pilot efficiency improvements, but they acknowledged options to move the item into the budget later.
Council approved the project by voice vote after a motion from Alder Hint and a second by Alder Prophet.
Next steps: staff will implement the pilot, coordinate participating departments, and report on utilization and budget implications.
