Sparrow Women's Clinic outlines free pregnancy, STI and support services and flags telemedicine risks

Mackenzie Murley, executive director of Sparrow Women's Clinic, and nurse-manager Beth Jones described the clinic’s free services—including medical‑grade pregnancy tests, first‑trimester ultrasounds, STI testing, pill‑reversal therapy, KanCare eligibility assistance and a parenting-education program called Sparrow’s Nest—and asked the county to consider continued support for space, training and service expansion.

Jones recounted a case where an ultrasound identified an ectopic pregnancy that required emergency surgery; commissioners asked whether telemedicine provision of medication without ultrasound risks missing such cases. Jones said telehealth platforms often rely on reported dates and can provide pills without imaging, which may fail to detect an ectopic pregnancy. "You could miss an ectopic pregnancy, and it could endanger a woman," she told commissioners.

Murley said the clinic had expanded client volume from 99 clients in 2024 to 155 in 2025 and that it provided all client services free of charge. Commissioners asked for additional statistics (including how many patients traveled from other counties) and for follow‑up on statewide data about out‑of‑state patients. The clinic offered to provide reports and to continue coordinating with other county health services.
