Chair removes Bridge Bedford item; staff reports 20 more permits than April 2025
Summary
At a Bedford County Courthouse and Property Committee meeting, the chair removed the Bridge Bedford agenda item due to a last‑minute scheduling conflict and staff reported the county issued 20 more permits than in April 2025; committee members asked staff to seek an earlier Planning meeting time so they can attend both meetings.

The Chair called the Bedford County Courthouse and Property Committee to order and announced Commissioner Thompson would open the meeting in prayer. The Chair also told members that the Bridge Bedford item was being removed from today’s agenda because of a last‑minute event and would be rescheduled once a new date was confirmed.
A county staff member presenting the codes report said, “You can see by your report, we from the same time last year, we've issued 20 more permits than we did in April 2025,” noting continued growth in the county. The committee had no follow-up questions on the report.
During the planning and zoning report discussion, a Committee member raised a scheduling conflict: the Planning meeting had been moved to the same night as the commission meeting at 7 p.m., preventing some members from attending both. The Committee member asked whether the Planning meeting could be moved earlier — suggesting 5:30 or 5:45 p.m. — so members could attend both meetings. The Chair said staff had received similar concerns, would reach out to affected parties, and would message Chris about the committee’s preference.
The Chair directed members to enclosed E911, GIS, and county‑building reports. The Fire Department had no additional remarks. The committee approved the 04/21/2026 committee minutes and then approved all submitted reports by voice vote. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was made.
The committee did not take formal action on the Bridge Bedford item today; members were advised it will return to a future agenda once a rescheduled date is confirmed.
