Board approves fall carnival; events staff outline busy summer schedule including 700-team tournament

Events supervisor Miss Leinster told the board the Hendersonville Spring Carnival will run at Veterans Park with gates opening at 5 p.m. and listed other events: the Smashville grammar volleyball tournament at the soccer complex is expected to host just over 700 teams (largely from out of town), the Memorial Day Classic 5K will close Drakes Creek Park from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, and Touch-a-Truck was moved to May 29 in the football parking lot at Drakes Creek.
Board members raised a scheduling conflict: a large USSA softball tournament will run the same weekend as one proposed carnival date, so staff indicated approval would be contingent on working out the Saturday schedule with organizers. The board moved to approve the carnival application with that contingency and voted in favor.
Leinster emphasized event logistics, ticketing via Eventbrite for the Hometown Jam at Veterans Park, and that gates/times could change for weather or operational reasons. The board asked staff to continue coordinating with tournament organizers and carnival operators to avoid conflicts.
