King County animal control details new shelter features, free CPR training plan and June 8 dedication

Brett, the animal control presenter introduced by the chair, told the Kane County Public Health Committee that the shelter has no staffing changes but is launching several community-facing initiatives.
The department is funded almost entirely by tag fees, Brett said, noting that “about 98% of our facility is through those tags.” He told members his office applied for a $35,000 K9/CPR grant that would create free CPR training available to King County residents and that classes will be certified and include a small first-aid kit for attendees.
Brett also reviewed recent outreach: two low-cost rabies and microchip clinics this year delivered 250 rabies shots and 39 microchips. He said clinics are popular and the next clinic is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On site improvements, he showed photos of a new rain/butterfly/zen garden and said staff removed existing plants, coordinated with a landscape contractor, and installed benches and donor plaques funded by local estates. "This whole area will be dedicated on June 8," he said, and invited members to the ribbon-cutting at King County Animal Control, 4060 Kesselinger Road, Geneva, Illinois.
Committee members and other attendees praised the facility’s appearance and asked about security lighting; Brett said two lights were added and camera coverage allows 24/7 monitoring while staff is adjusting angles to be respectful to neighbors.
The report included no formal motions. Materials and a press release were posted on the department website, and the presenter said more information will be shared ahead of the dedication event.
