State board recognizes top-performing districts and Green Ribbon School nominees

The Alabama State Board of Education on May 14 adopted resolutions recognizing high-performing school systems and a Green Ribbon School nominee.
Dr. Eric Mackey told the board that Dale County achieved the highest county score ever recorded on the Alabama State report card and noted the system’s growth. “It is the highest that any county school system has ever made on the state report card, too,” Dr. Mackey said as the board invited Dale County representatives to stand for recognition. The board approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote; the transcript does not include an individual roll-call tally.
The board also recognized Mountain Brook City School System for the highest city performance on the report card. Dr. Mackey said district representatives had to leave unexpectedly, but that the absence did not affect the recognition.
Good Hope Primary School in Cullman County was commended as the state’s Green Ribbon School nominee. Dr. Mackey described facility upgrades at Good Hope — including LED lighting and upgraded thermostats with a management control system — as well as farm-to-table programming and partnerships with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and conservation programs. “To win the Green Ribbon Award means that they have a significant commitment to…everything you think environmental,” he said. The board adopted the Good Hope resolution by unanimous voice vote.
These recognitions were ceremonial and intended to highlight school and district achievements; no funding or regulatory actions were taken at the meeting.
