Winnebago County staff seek SS4A grant to add rumble strips on R74 and Highway 105

At its May 12 meeting the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors heard an update from county road staff about this year’s maintenance work and a pending grant application. Meinders and Schutter reported that DenCo installed a pipe liner in a culvert by Pilot Knob. They also said a private crossing request for Don Holtan would be placed on the board’s agenda for the following week for formal consideration.
Staff said the county is preparing an application for the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to fund shoulder paving and the installation of rumble strips on R74 and on Highway 105 from Lake Mills to the Winnebago County line. The presentation did not include a grant amount or a firm timeline for construction; staff described the work as part of routine shoulder paving priorities tied to grant availability and road-safety objectives.
The county’s update focused on planned maintenance sequencing and the grant application; no formal motions, votes, or funding approvals for the SS4A project were recorded at the May 12 session. The board is expected to consider any resulting grant application or specific project funding in a future meeting.
