IT team proposes centralized professional development, penetration testing and one-year access-point license extension

Karen Preeger (committee member) and staff described a plan to centralize professional development for the district's central IT team and to commission penetration testing (a cybersecurity audit) to identify system weaknesses and perform a gap analysis. "We basically get a big audit of our system," one committee member said of pen testing, adding it would help the team prioritize improvements.
Staff also explained the district has two different service-license cycles for access points that coterm and that the existing licenses will not carry through the access-point replacement project scheduled for next summer. To avoid a lapse in coverage, staff requested a one-year extension of service/warranty licenses from the current vendor; staff noted some license management complications (the vendor naming and coterm situation), which is why the extension is being sought.
No formal contract extension was approved at the committee level; staff said the extension request would be brought forward for board approval so the district maintains service coverage until the access-point replacement can be implemented.
