Martinez Unified board approves school calendars, CSBA policy updates and reaffirms longtime scholarship

Policy and bylaws: Interim Superintendent Janelle Ayatt brought forward CSBA policy updates and board bylaws required by recent state legislation relating to student safety and volunteer/background procedures (BP 4119.24, BP 4219.24, BP 4319.24 and bylaws 9322 and 9323). A motion to adopt the CSBA updates carried with the student representative and trustees voting Aye.
Scholarship resolution: The board adopted Resolution 2026‑27 reaffirming the Tavon Scholarship Trust Fund and clarifying roles between the county treasurer and the district after staff found no original resolution on file; the scholarship dates to the Alhambra Union High School District era and continues to be awarded to students.
Closed‑session report: At the meeting’s start President Brugger reported three closed‑session student discipline outcomes: an expulsion (student 2025‑26‑02) approved by motion (mover Courtney, seconded by Logan), a readmission with stipulation for student 2024‑25‑05 to Vicente Martinez High School (mover Logan Campbell, seconded by Brenda Leal), and approval of a suspended expulsion for student 2025‑26‑01 (motion by the president, seconded by Brenda Leal). The board reported these actions were unanimous.
