Parks department paves Seven Streams lot, wins about $400,000 IDNR trails grant for Bur Oak Bend

Deputy Director Bruce Oldham told the board on April 20 that the parking lot at Seven Streams Park was paved and striped last week and that the project is about 95% complete. Oldham said the crew will finish the punch list with the contractor and move on to linking the trail system throughout the property.
Director Chris Stice announced the department was awarded about $400,000 from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Indiana Trails Program to support development of a trail system at Bur Oak Bend. Stice said the work will begin at the small gravel lot on Riverwood Avenue within the Bur Oak Preserve parcel and that parking will receive small upgrades.
"The project is now approximately 95% complete," Deputy Director Oldham said of Seven Streams Park, describing remaining punch-list items and trail connections. Stice framed the IDNR funds as targeted for trail development at Bur Oak Bend.
The board received the updates during the project-updates section of the meeting; no formal board actions were required for the grant announcement itself. Staff said they will pursue the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant process and continue coordinating project logistics.
What's next: Staff will complete final punch-list items at Seven Streams and begin trail work at Bur Oak Bend with the support of the IDNR grant; the department will report back to the board as work progresses.
