Torrance Unified announces dismissal in closed session, names three assistant principals

The Torrance Unified School District board reported that, in closed session, trustees voted unanimously to dismiss employee number FB0130659 based on charges outlined in a proposed settlement.

The board also announced three administrative appointments effective July 1, 2026. President Liu said the board approved Andrew Che as assistant principal at Torrance High School. "Andrew Che currently serves as a dean of students at Torrance High School," the board read, summarizing his background in teaching and educational leadership. Che told the board he is "super excited" to continue serving Torrance students and staff and noted his family ties to the district.

The board also named J. Tyler Farrell assistant principal at South High School; board members read Farrell’s background in admissions, attendance and accountability and his previous roles in career technical education and band direction. Marina Skates was named assistant principal at West High School; the board summarized Skates’s recent role as coordinator of student services at Antelope Valley Union High School District and prior counseling and special‑education leadership positions.

President Liu said these personnel actions were part of the closed‑session outcomes the board announced in open session. No additional disciplinary details about the dismissed employee were stated in the public report. The board’s statement noted that the appointments were approved unanimously and will take effect on July 1, 2026.
