Minnetrista staff outlines tree-replacement approach after ash removals in Hunter's Crest

Public Works told the Minnetrista City Council that crews have been removing dead ash trees through the winter and that residents may contact staff about replacement requests.
"We are looking at about $600 each" for a replacement tree, Public Works staff (Lisonbee) said, citing a prior street project cost. Staff asked whether council prefers automatic 1-for-1 replacements or a request-based approach and noted that replacements would be planted on private property and become the homeowner's responsibility.
Councilmembers suggested tracking requests and returning to council when a threshold—suggested by staff at 10 requests—has been reached. Staff also noted the city applied for a Hennepin County tree grant this spring but was denied; council asked staff to follow up with the county about the denial.
Next steps: staff will track replacement requests, research grant options and come back with a recommendation to council once requests accumulate.
