Code hearing sets case 1354 for June council determination after staff flag overgrown vegetation and hazardous tree

The Clerk opened a code enforcement hearing at about 10:02 a.m. on May 19, 2026, and set case 1354 for an "order of determination" to be considered at the June 9 council meeting, saying there was no representative for the property present.

The scheduling followed a discussion among hearing participants and staff about the condition of the property. Participants described overgrown vegetation and scattered trash, and raised particular concern about a tree that appears to be splitting near an easement and could pose a hazard. A meeting participant said a tree can be treated "like an overgrown weed" for enforcement purposes, and another noted similar trees had been abated under the jurisdiction's Title 11 code.

Speakers discussed whether the city’s crews could safely remove the large or unstable tree and concluded the job would likely require an outside tree contractor with lifts and specialized equipment. The participants agreed the work would probably need to be bid rather than handled in-house; one participant said the issue should be included in the staff report so that a proper bidding process could be arranged.

Participants also discussed the property's fencing and yard debris, noting that the front fence is tall and the backyard retains larger items even where some cleanup has occurred. Attendees suggested photographing the site for the file; the group agreed staff would inspect the property, document conditions, and include recommendations in the staff report to the council.

The Clerk confirmed the hearing remains scheduled for the June 9 council meeting for an order of determination and reiterated that no property representative was present at the May 19 session.
