During its March 5 work session, the Shikellamy School District board examined procedural items on the March 12 voting agenda, including food service outreach, procurement processes and grant applications.
Chair Tara Sprenkel questioned instances where items were presented with quotes instead of formal bids and asked why the elementary-school flooring projects were not put out to bid. Board members discussed the recommendation from Hughesville for a specific flooring product and suggested a durability check (a "crayon test") as an informal verification step; no formal procurement action was taken at the work session.
Jenna Eister-Whitaker asked whether the district could run a student survey about the lunch program; administration said the food-service contractor organizes panel discussions with student groups and that a survey could be conducted.
At the administration’s recommendation, the board directed removing two grant items from consideration on the March 12 voting agenda: the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Program grant and the T-Mobile Hometown Grants for Community Projects. The items were tabled for later consideration; no vote was recorded at the work session.
Directors were also encouraged to participate in a Braves Foundation fundraiser March 11 at MidTown Bistro. The work session adjourned at 9:51 p.m.
