Students and staff highlight CTE Entrepreneurship program; district weighs new Spanish-textbook rollout

At the March 5 Shikellamy School District work session, Career and Technical Education instructor Steve Renn reviewed the district’s Entrepreneurship Program and students described guest speakers, business visits and competition experiences.
Student participants Patrick Sprenkel, Belen Madrid and Adelina Colecchia talked about experiential learning opportunities the program provides. Renn framed the program as a mix of classroom instruction and real-world exposure to local businesses and mentors.
Assistant Superintendent Trevor Palmatier presented a proposed new Spanish textbook series and a three-year rollout plan that would begin with Level 1 this year, followed by Level 2 next year and Level 3 the year after. During the presentation, board members and administrators discussed the feasibility of offering AP Spanish and Calculus II as independent-study options for college-bound students; administration said students are encouraged to request advanced coursework directly.
Administrators emphasized the district’s intent to provide rigorous internal options and noted that Dual Enrollment is currently underused; they said they are working with parents and students to increase participation in college-credit opportunities.
The board did not take a formal vote on textbook adoption during the work session; the proposal will move through the district’s regular adoption process and return to the voting agenda as required.
