Shikellamy board hears RTII presentation showing higher i‑Ready engagement and modest projected proficiency gains

The Shikellamy School District Board of Education received a Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTII) update at its Feb. 5 work session, with administrators and classroom teachers reporting increased engagement on the district’s i‑Ready reading platform.
"Approximately 90% of students are utilizing i‑Ready instruction, with an average of 32 minutes spent on lessons and a 74% pass rate," Michael Egan, chief Shikellamy elementary school principal, told the board. Superintendent Jeremy Winn introduced RTII teachers Nicole Schenewer, Krista Tilford, Dee Bobinis and Kathy Stettler, who presented data on interventions and student progress.
A staff member identified in the presentation as Mrs. Barno reviewed historical comparisons, saying the district is tracking about 6% more students than at the same time last year and that proficiency is projected at 36%, compared with 31% the prior year. Board members were told principals provided historical context to show that student growth is trending positively.
Board members asked questions during the presentation about trends and supports; no formal action was required. The RTII presentation was informational and will remain part of materials before the board ahead of the February voting meeting.
