City staff presented a prioritization plan for remaining street-maintenance funds and the council voted to approve the list.
Staff said there is just over $300,000 left in the city’s street-maintenance budget to allocate before October and recommended carving out roughly $70,000 for immediate prioritized work that could cover one to several short segments depending on needs. The staff presentation broke work into precinct priorities and described the layered construction sequence — base stabilization, curb and gutter, ditching and culvert replacement, then hot-mix asphalt or surface coating — and noted several corridors that need focused repair (Viewcrest, Rolling Hills, Valley Lane, Homewood, Pecan, Darius, Oak, Wise, Bridal Lane, Charles, Hackberry).
“Right now we have just a little over $300,000 left in our street maintenance budget that we can allocate specifically for new construction or complete road maintenance,” staff told the council. Staff also said some roads will require staged work (curb and gutter, stabilization, then asphalt) and estimated a remaining shortfall on particular segments such as an upcoming $10,000 cost for final hot-mix material on a finishing segment.
Councilmembers discussed precinct-level priorities, noted the ongoing Homewood project nearing completion, and agreed that targeted hot-mix treatment for washout-prone hills (notably Pecan) would extend the life of recent investments. Council approved the staff list by motion; the mayor called the motion and it carried.
Next steps: staff will schedule work according to the approved priorities and present details in upcoming budget workshops as projects are refined.
