Committee backs resolution urging DMV to distribute roundabout-use materials

The House Transportation Committee on May 18 voted to move House Concurrent Resolution 96, which urges the Department of Public Safety and Corrections Office of Motor Vehicles to provide educational materials about proper roundabout use.
Representative Adams, sponsor of the resolution, said the measure is aimed at public education rather than regulation, and appealed to colleagues to "think small" because residents in smaller parishes can be unfamiliar with roundabout navigation. "I'm from a small parish. We have one red light in my parish ... So I just want some information put out to let the public know how to use them," Adams said.
Members who have experience with roundabouts noted drivers in their districts also struggle with navigation. Representative Spell said he supported the resolution and would like to move it favorably when appropriate. Representative Phelps asked whether information is taught in driver's education; Adams said he was not sure but noted outside organizations like AARP have produced pamphlets.
The committee moved HCR 96 favorably without objection.
