Teacher-led cohort presents new evaluation tool for 500 non-teaching employees; board hears implementation plan
Summary
An aspiring-leaders cohort presented a mixed-model evaluation tool for approximately 500 non-teaching district employees and about 40 appraisers. The model pairs a revised rubric with a goal-based evaluation and includes a calibration and implementation timeline for 2026–27.

Katie Brickerel, an eighth-grade language-arts teacher and member of the aspiring-leaders cohort, presented a two-part evaluation model for the district's roughly 500 non-teaching employees and about 40 appraisers on May 11.
Brickerel said the new approach preserves a traditional rubric (now expanded to six domains with an added leadership domain for supervisors) while adding a goal-based evaluation that asks appraisers and employees to set SMART goals and a professional-development plan. "This mixed model allows us to move into a more robust evaluation tool for those 500 employees," she said, noting calibration work already planned for summer and appraiser training at the leadership summit in August.
The committee asked for timing and implementation details. Brickerel said goal-setting would occur in September with final evaluation in April or May, and that a midyear check-in and self-review worksheet would be available. Administration confirmed IT will convert the forms for staff use and appraiser training is scheduled in August.
Board members praised the teacher-led approach and asked whether the district will compensate teachers who develop and present training. Administrators said teachers will be paid for preparation and presentation time under the revised in-service model; Brickerel said presenters receive two hours of planning time per 50-minute session.
Next steps: The evaluation tool is part of information items and will move through administrative implementation steps for the 2026–27 school year, including IT form development and appraiser training.
