The House Appropriations Committee on Monday reported Senate Bill 388 favorable as presented, a measure authored by Senator Hodges that authorizes the Division of Administration to review state contracts for potential ties to foreign adversaries or terrorist organizations.
Miss Robinson read the bill. Senator Hodges told the committee the measure is permissive — "this is a may. It's not a shall" — and that the Division of Administration told her it could request contract information by email at no additional cost. The bill also removes a trigger clause from legislation she passed on Aug. 1, 2023.
Representative Freeman asked why the bill had no fiscal note; Senator Hodges said she did not know and noted the Division of Administration had indicated no cost. Representative Mack moved the bill favorably; with no objection the committee reported SB 388 favorable.
