Penn Crest board approves three-year ParentSquare contract to consolidate communications and websites

The Penn Crest School Board voted to approve a three-year contract with ParentSquare, a communications and website platform the district said will replace multiple existing tools (including SchoolMessenger and several web services) and deliver accessibility features required under updated WCAG guidelines.

Mark (district staff) described ParentSquare's features: a mobile app for rapid notifications, nightly synchronization with the student information system to avoid separate sign-ups, targeted messaging by bus or grade, and a single posting workflow that can syndicate to district social media and websites. "ParentSquare smart sites, all their sites are inherently WCAG compliant," Mark said, noting the vendor's claim that its sites meet web content accessibility requirements and that the district's public-facing pages will be ADA-compliant.

Administration presented financial terms including an initial implementation payment and annual fees across the three-year term; staff said consolidating services and license counts would reduce net costs by roughly $7,000 per year after eliminating several subscriptions and an archiving fee. Board members asked about privacy, which groups can post, whether outside groups could message students (staff said outside groups would not be able to access student contact information), and how the platform tracks message delivery and open rates.

The board approved the contract, and staff said the vendor will begin implementation and configuration immediately to permit testing and early rollout in the summer months. The district also said it would bring more implementation details to the board and ensure accommodations and opt-out choices are available for families.
