Keystone Oaks honors four longtime educators and staff at board meeting

The Keystone Oaks School District board opened its meeting with a recognition ceremony for four longtime employees who are retiring after decades of service.

Superintendent Dr. Shoppe (S2) described each honoree’s contributions. She said Nancy taught English courses, sponsored varieties and SADD, led students to local festivals and theater contests, and plans to spend retirement with family and “watching British mystery shows.”

Dr. Shoppe said John Murphy has been with the district for roughly 38 years, teaching world history, government and AP comparative government, and helping found Project Succeed. She described him as a steady presence in the social studies department who prioritized rigor and respect.

Terry Twiney was recognized for a long career that included traveling librarian duties, second-grade teaching and starting the extended-day kindergarten program when the district still had half-day kindergarten. Dr. Shoppe quoted Terry’s guidance to “remember that it’s about the kids” as her words of wisdom.

Nicole Parente was honored for about 34 years of service as an elementary teacher, middle school ELA teacher and high school counselor; Dr. Shoppe noted Parente’s mentorship of other counselors and her pride that her daughter chose education as a major.

Board members and colleagues offered thanks and applause. The recognition segment concluded before the board moved into routine business and voting items.

What’s next: The board proceeded to routine agenda items and voted on minutes, personnel actions and contracts later in the meeting.
