Board approves participation in MAISD School of Choice window for 2026-27

The Muskegon Public Schools Board of Education unanimously approved participation in the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) countywide School of Choice (SOC) window for the 2026–27 school year.
On Feb. 18 the board recorded a motion to participate in the SOC period that runs each year from May 1 through May 30; the motion passed 7-0 with Billie Bruce and Morgan Witmer recorded among members supporting the motion. The minutes indicate the district will open the choice window in the same May 1–30 timeframe used in prior years.
The minutes also note a separate MAISD 2026–27 budget review item. Board members reported conflicts with available schedules for serving as a district delegate on the MAISD budget review and tabled selecting a delegate pending whether a Zoom attendance option is available.
