Melanie Young, executive director of the Yerington Main Street Committee, presented the committee’s year‑one strategic update and described ongoing grant activity and projects.
Young said the committee was awarded a Travel Nevada Special Projects Grant of $50,000 for Phase 1 of the Goldfield Avenue sidewalk project, which would provide approximately 1,562 feet of ADA‑compliant sidewalks along Goldfield between Whitacre and the Yerington welcome sign and complete roughly half the corridor. The project period runs through Dec. 31, 2027, and will include a volunteer event component.
Young also reported multiple Main Street grant applications pending, including a Nevada Main Street grant (facade improvements, historical markers, community Christmas tree, and a Harvest Festival request totaling $57,262 requested) and a submitted T‑Mobile Hometown Grant for a Littell Street Arts and Cultural District project (requested amount $49,954). Young said she expected Nevada Main Street awards to be known in early January and T‑Mobile results in late February.
The council considered Room Tax grant allocations totaling $53,246 for Jan. 1–June 30, 2026. The packet listed recommended grant awards, including $15,000 for the Yerington Main Street Car Show, $15,000 for Night in the Country Music Festival, $7,000 for Lyon County Fair Board, $6,700 for Yerington Chamber of Commerce, $5,000 for Mason Valley Beekeepers, $2,500 for Yerington Theater for the Arts, $1,046 for Mason Valley Fireworks Committee, and $1,000 for Great Basin Lavender Association.
Young outlined a multi‑year strategy for placemaking along Littell Street — including a proposed gateway mural, decorative fencing, custom benches, and volunteer cleanups — and provided a project packet describing partners, donor support, and a plan to pursue additional grant funding for streetscape work. The council heard the report and discussed next steps with staff; multiple grants and volunteer efforts will proceed through the Main Street Committee and city partnerships.
