Parks director highlights $113,000 grant, bridge completion and seasonal pool preparations

At the May 28 meeting the parks director reported several department highlights, including grant funding, completed infrastructure and seasonal-prep updates.
The department received an OEPA scrap-tire grant of $113,000 to fund a poured-in-place surface at Academy Park’s playground, staff said, allowing the project to be completed without the previously planned mixed surface. Staff also said visuals and concepts for the Ashburnham Playground update are in development.
The Big Walnut pedestrian bridge near Stony Brook Church has been completed and the trail reopened earlier than anticipated. Seasonal hiring is complete, the aquatics team held an in‑service and the Gahanna pool hosted a soft opening with middle school visits to prepare for opening weekend.
The director also reported Price Road facility renovations are nearing substantial completion with asphalt poured; parking work remains and programs are expected to resume in the fall.
