CENTRO reports 7% ridership gain after Oswego County 'Better Bus' changes; city routes simplified

Tim Sinclair, Centro’s director of operations, briefed the TAC on the Better Bus Oswego County Initiative, implemented in January 2026 to simplify routes and improve frequency in Fulton and Oswego.
"The routes in Fulton and Oswego had drastic changes; simplifying the system and adding frequency in the routes in an effort to make it more rider-friendly and gain ridership," Sinclair said. He reported a 7% rise in ridership in those cities since the redesign and said Centro continues to collect feedback from riders and drivers to make minor adjustments.
Sinclair said the Oswego–Syracuse route (Osw46) and the Mexico routes remained essentially unchanged. He told attendees Centro used surveys, equity analysis and public feedback sessions — and pointed to a similar redesign in Rome as evidence that riders favor a simpler, more frequent system.
Attendees discussed continuity for routes serving CiTi BOCES and how revised brochures can be obtained; Centro staff offered several distribution options, including bulk mailings or pickup at the Oswego bus garage. The agency said it does not want to remove service from areas that show entrance for future growth and will continue to refine schedules based on local input.
