NY Transportation tells Oswego County TAC it can fill rural medical-transport gaps as county seeks vendors

Danielle Monahan, co-owner of NY Transportation, told the Oswego County Transportation Advisory Committee on March 3 that her family‑owned company provides countywide rides aimed at closing rural transportation gaps, including non‑emergency medical trips and work shifts.
"We have seven, with two backup vehicles," Monahan said, adding that some drivers use their own vehicles "which have the proper car and liability insurance." She said the company is a for‑profit operator that manages contracted rides and is adding wheelchair and stretcher vehicles to its fleet. Monahan also said NY Transportation has three female drivers and tries to honor requests for a female or repeated driver when possible.
The presentation came as county providers described ongoing gaps in rural service and some cancellations by state‑level Medicaid transportation (MAS) vendors. Monahan said NY Transportation picks up clients as early as 3 a.m. to support shift workers and that the company works with Oswego Health, DSS, the Office of Mobility Management and local providers such as Haven of Hope.
Attendees asked operational questions about background checks and vehicle maintenance; Monahan said drivers undergo background checks and monthly motor‑vehicle checks. She said workforce shortages and rising operational costs have been challenges this year and that NY Transportation is seeking contracts and preferred‑provider arrangements to stabilize operations.
The presentation concluded with praise from providers who said NY Transportation fills last‑minute gaps. Chair Legislator Roy Reehil noted the TAC will include short presentations at the start of future meetings to give providers a chance to describe services and partnership needs.
