Gage County approves referee-services agreement with Standard Appraisal for 2025–26 tax year

The Gage County Board of Equalization voted to approve an agreement for referee services with Standard Appraisal for the 2025–26 tax year at its May 13 meeting.
The chair introduced the contract and asked Jim to comment. Jim said he had seen the contract and had no substantive concerns: "I have not seen that contract. I... I agree. I talked to him about it. It was pretty standard, like, I didn't see any issues with the county," Jim said when asked about the document. The chair noted that Lloyd would not be available for refereeing this year.
According to discussion, the county intends to use the same core referees as the previous year, listing proposed referees Derek and Alice (assigned to Beatrice and small towns reappraisal), Daryl (commercial), and Josh (south region). The board discussed coverage plans so referees could explain reappraisal reasons in Beatrice and handle properties they managed previously.
A motion to approve the agreement was made by Dorn and seconded by Jurgens; the board voted 6 in favor and the chair announced the motion carried. The board did not record contract dollar amounts in the verbal record at the meeting; the contract document was available for review.
The decision places Standard Appraisal on contract to provide referee services during the 2025–26 tax cycle; further administrative follow-up would occur through county staff and the assessor's office if required.
