Mesquite ISD honors more than 330 students at spring recognition ceremony

Mesquite Independent School District on the same evening as a special board meeting held its spring student recognition ceremony, honoring more than 330 students and student groups for accomplishments in academics, fine arts, career and technical education (CTE), esports and athletics.
The program was organized into sections so every student group received recognition: advanced academics (chess and UIL academic contests), Destination Imagination, fine arts (UIL sweepstakes bands, choirs and orchestras and several TMEA All State qualifiers), CTSO and CTE winners (Business Professionals of America, FCCLA, TSA, SkillsUSA), esports state competitors, and district and regional athletic qualifiers.
The emcee reminded attendees that photos will be posted on the district’s social media and invited trustees, principals and families to join students onstage. Highlights called out during the ceremony included district and regional chess champions at multiple grade levels, Benjamin Thomas named the high-school chess tournament champion, Mesquite High School and other campuses earning top UIL academic placements, TMEA All State choir members (Noah Vasquez and Jack Garrison), and CTE winners who advanced to state and national competitions such as drone challenge and national-level BPA qualifiers.
Athletics recognitions celebrated regional qualifiers and district champions across tennis, track and field, soccer, softball, baseball and more; the ceremony named numerous student-athletes and coaches and closed with a final photo and applause for the entire group of honorees.
“We truly believe that every student deserves opportunities to discover their talents, develop their gifts, and find a place where they belong,” the event host said as the program concluded and families were directed to take photos and reconnect with students in holding rooms.
Organizers said the district will post photos on Mesquite ISD’s Facebook page in the days following the event.
