Committee adopts amendment and advances bill to give Louisiana auctioneers preference for state online and live sales

Representative Shamalhorn (S22) presented HB1129 on behalf of Louisiana auctioneers to allow in‑state auction companies to compete for state property sales conducted online as well as live. Mr. Guinn (S23) of the Louisiana Auctioneers Association supported the bill, saying online vendors from outside the state had been winning work since the statute referred only to live public auctions. He argued including online auctions would restore local opportunity and potentially increase sale proceeds because of stronger local bidder participation.
Legislative staff member Curry (S24) explained Amendment 3713, which clarified that proposed law applies to live public auctions and internet/computer auctions and made other technical placement changes. The committee adopted the amendment and moved HB1129 favorable as amended.
