Committee backs resolution urging DOJ to release unclassified Epstein/Maxwell materials

Senator Koenig presented SCR 30, a nonbinding memorial asking the United States Congress to urge the Department of Justice to release all unclassified documents, videos, images and materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Koenig told the committee that family experience with child sexual abuse informed the request and said the public deserves confidence that no one is above the law. “The public deserves the confidence that no one is above the law regardless of the wealth, status, and political influence,” Koenig said.
Koenig acknowledged SCR 30 carries no force of law but said it would send a message that such exploitation must be investigated and prosecuted. Representative Newell moved the resolution favorably and the chair noted no opposition; the committee recorded the motion as passing.
Because SCR 30 is a memorial resolution, it does not change state law and its effect is to express the legislature’s position and request on the federal executive branch. The committee took no further action beyond reporting the resolution favorably.
