The Benton County Board of Supervisors entered closed session at 10:00 a.m. on May 12 under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(c) to discuss strategy with counsel on matters in litigation or where litigation is imminent. The board exited closed session at 11:00 a.m.; no action was taken during or following the closed session.
Earlier in the meeting Supervisor Bruce Volz reported on a Heartland Insurance meeting, saying renewal costs increased about 4.2% and that the county’s policy for use of county grounds and facilities may need language requiring organizations to provide liability insurance when using county property. Volz also said he attended a Linn County supervisors meeting and publicly expressed Benton County’s disappointment with Linn County’s communication about a proposed energy center, noting Linn County’s ordinance includes a 2.5-mile buffer and that Benton County expects similar consideration for nearby Benton residents.
Chairman Tracy Seeman reported on a Conservation Board meeting and said a prospective systems navigator would work at the service center a few days a week; the partner organization offered to contribute $150 per month toward utilities and the county will draft an MOU for review by the county attorney before proceeding.
