Council OKs DUATS agreement to study bus stops and ADA access

The Decatur City Council voted 7–0 to authorize a technical planning agreement with the Decatur Urbanized Transportation Study (DUATS) and the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission to conduct a comprehensive bus-stop assessment.
Economic and Community Development staff explained the study will analyze which stops are used or unused following recent transit realignments and micro-transit implementation, identify locations needing additional stops, and include an ADA compliance component. The project will also create two paid local internships connected to Richland Community College and Millikin University.
City Manager (Ms. Hunt) described the agreement as a creative staff solution to an identified transit planning need. Council members moved the resolution, which passed unanimously.
The study is intended to inform future capital improvements and strengthen applications for external transit funding.
