The Finance Director recommended the county again participate in the GEDC summer internship program. He said the county previously employed two high-school students and, after reviewing resumes, selected one graduating senior from Morris High School and an additional college-level intern with prior GEDC experience.
"With $40,000 budgeted towards a placeholder for the vacant purchasing manager position, I do have sufficient space in the finance budget to cover the cost of those two summer internships," the Finance Director said. He proposed the high-school intern at $15 per hour and the college intern at $16 per hour, running from the first week of June through early August.
A committee member moved to approve the two part-time administrative internships; Chair called for the motion (Joe moved; Jerry seconded) and the committee approved the internships by voice vote.
The internships are intended to strengthen relationships with local schools and provide workforce experience; staff will manage hiring and scheduling and report back on placements.
