Atlantic County commissioners gave a first reading to Ordinance No. 3, a bylaw amendment that would allow members of the public to comment early on agenda items not scheduled for public hearings and would clarify certain notice and consent-agenda provisions.
The clerk read the ordinance’s title and the chair described the change as updating notice requirements and providing for early comment. “This will allow for early comment by anybody regarding any item on the agenda in the beginning of the meeting,” the chair said. The ordinance was moved, seconded and the board voted by roll call to advance the ordinance on first reading.
The ordinance was described as drafted by the county solicitor and intended to streamline when and how members of the public may address agenda items and how routine items are handled via the consent agenda. The measure received no public comment at the reading and will return to the board for a subsequent reading or further action as required by county procedures.
