Committee reviews revised low-voltage/camera scope for Morse office build-out; staff recommends LVS contractor

County staff presented an updated low-voltage and cabling contract amendment for the new Morse office build-out and asked the Finance Committee to recommend the vendor’s updated proposal to the full county board.

Staff said the bid originally awarded to LVS now includes camera installation after site walk-throughs and coordination with department heads and the general contractor; incorporating cameras into the low-voltage subcontractor’s scope avoids later rework and is more cost-efficient than purchasing cameras separately or adding another subcontract after walls are finished. Staff described coordination with departments and a project manager from Narvik and said the scope was reviewed with facilities and engineering staff.

Committee members asked whether other vendors or purchasing cameras directly had been considered; staff responded that using the same subcontractor reduces markup and administrative overhead and that in-person site reviews helped confirm locations and wiring needs. Staff estimated the building timeline would allow move-in in late fall, with further planning needed for furniture and election-related impacts on the county clerk’s office.

The committee discussed recommending the updated LVS proposal to the county board for final approval; staff said that the contract recommendation and a scheduled site tour will be included in upcoming materials to county board members.
