Winfield awards Riverwalk Phase 3 construction contract to Katy Landscape

The Winfield Village Board on Feb. 19 approved awarding the Riverwalk Park Phase 3 construction contract to Katy Landscape of Joliet and authorized staff to proceed with contract preparation.

Ben Olsen summarized the work covered by the bid, which includes playground and challenge-course installation, site clearing and earthwork, concrete walks and paving, site furnishings and planting. He said the lowest responsive base bid from Katy Landscape was $404,159.66 and that, after owner-purchased items, professional services and a recommended 5% contingency, the total project cost using that base bid would be about $828,209.75. With the alternate shade-structure purchase and installation added, Olsen said the total would be approximately $850,000.

Olsen and RVI Planning confirmed references for Katy Landscape were acceptable. The board discussed an alternate installation price for the shade structure; staff clarified the alternate installation bid for that work was $3,050, while purchase and installation of the shade structure as an owner-purchased item was earlier estimated at about $21,000.

Trustee Jacobs moved to award the contract including the installation alternate; Trustee Hardy seconded. The motion passed by roll call with trustees present voting yes.

Olsen said owner-purchased items (playground equipment, game tables, benches, bike rack, trash receptacles and a shade structure) will be returned to the board for separate approval and purchase at a future meeting, likely the next board meeting.
