Lake Zurich awards $1.81 million contract for 2026 utility improvements

The Village of Lake Zurich voted to award a contract for the 2026 utility improvement project, which will replace approximately 2,400 feet of water main and 300 feet of sanitary sewer main in several neighborhoods and perform related valve, hydrant and service work.
Trustee Riley summarized the project scope and budget. Bids were opened April 22, 2026; Puritano Construction Company submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid at $1,806,975, which was below the engineer’s estimate of $2,156,546.33. The proposed total project budget — including construction, engineering and a 20% contingency to cover potential utility conflicts, unsuitable soils or additional stabilization and IDOT coordination — is $2,276,765.82.
Michael Brown, speaking for village staff, said that if approved the project would start in June and likely run through September, allowing the village to get ahead of next year’s road resurfacing program. The board moved, seconded and approved awarding the contract to Puritano Construction Company and authorized total expenditures not to exceed the stated project budget.
The motion included formal authorization to proceed and to apply contingency funds as needed; village staff said they will coordinate scheduling and IDOT-required intersection work for Route 12 and Route 22.
