On May 19, 2026, the Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board voted to approve a variance that allows an accessory building at 2484 Quail Ridge Drive in Ward 1 to exceed the standard 2,000-square-foot limit and total 3,750 square feet. The applicant is listed as Alana Thomas.
Planning staff (identified in the meeting as Miss Tanya) told the board the applicant recently constructed a full barn with an attached RV cover for personal use and that staff expects minimal impacts. Staff recommended granting the variance with conditions: the development must adhere to the site plan on file; the Division of Planning and Development director or designee may authorize technical or engineering adjustments discovered during development; and a development permit must be obtained from the division before construction proceeds.
Chair Diane Whining called for public comment; no blue cards were submitted and the board heard no opposition. Board member Latricia Cobb moved to approve the variance with the stated conditions; Art Little seconded. The board voted in favor and the chair announced the motion passed.
The board noted that, as required by the board’s bylaws, proponents and opponents were limited in speaking time and that variance cases are final decisions of this body. The meeting record does not include roll-call votes by individual member name; the transcript records a general “Aye” call and the announcing that the motion passed. The applicant or staff may pursue required permitting through the Division of Planning and Development as the next step.
