Village outlines plan to rebuild Crestwood pump station pumps over multi-year schedule

Public works staff told trustees on March 10 that the village will rebuild Pump 2 at its Crestwood pump station this year and plans additional pump rebuilds in subsequent fiscal years. The station, placed in service in 1961, supports the village reservoir and an elevated tank used for distribution.
Staff described the technical complexity of pump rebuilding — motors, bearings, seals, rewinding and propeller work — and said two vendors with previous experience on the station were asked for proposals. The work requires removing heavy pump and motor assemblies and transporting them to specialized shops for refurbishment; staff said the estimated cost is currently budgeted and that the project is below the budgeted amount for the line item this year.
Officials explained the system now runs four pumps under a modern SCADA system and variable-frequency drives, which alternate run cycles; the rebuilds are timed to avoid operating risks. Trustees asked clarifying questions about operations during rebuilds and timing; staff said they would sign an agreement with the chosen vendor and schedule the lift-out work once the contract is executed.
Staff will bring contract documents and schedule details to the board when vendor selection is complete.
