RSU 22 moves cellphone-use policy to first reading and advances several staff and naming policies

Faye (policy committee chair) told the board that JFCK, a policy restricting student use of cell phones, smartwatches and personal electronic devices, was revised to reflect recent changes in state law and Department of Education guidance. The committee moved JFCK to first reading as presented; after brief discussion about coding and committee review, the board approved first reading unanimously.
The committee also moved several personnel and employment-related policies (GCK professional staff assignments and transfers; GBGE return-to-work and light-duty assignments; GDF support staff employment) to first reading, and recommended deletion of GDC (support staff leaves and absences) because those matters are governed by the collective bargaining agreement. Board members asked clarifying questions about which roles are included in the term "professional staff" (the committee clarified it includes positions beyond classroom teachers) and requested minor language fixes prior to posting. Several policies (FF naming of school buildings and facilities; FFA memorials; GCOA supervision and evaluation; GBEA staff ethics/conflict of interest) received second readings and carried unanimously following minor wording adjustments.
The board did not adopt JFCK at final reading; it moved JFCK forward for the required second reading at a later meeting, per standard policy procedure.
