Commissioners approve batch of resolutions covering road closures, grants and budget shifts

The Medina County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a package of routine and financial resolutions at its meeting, including road-closure orders, grant acceptances and adjustments to appropriations.
Brett Thomas, the county finance director, presented 10 resolutions and described a modification to a transfer of appropriations that would reduce the general fund salary line for the county auditor by $53,158.09 after a long-term employee termination. "I am making a recommendation to reduce the general fund line item for the auditor's office, salary line in the amount of $53,158.09," Thomas said during his presentation.
The board approved creation of a $58,312.06 OCJS body camera grant for the sheriff's office and accepted an Ohio Drug Law Enforcement grant for the Drug Task Force of $120,001.69 with a required local match of $30,001.69. Thomas also said the county filed a reclaim and felony delinquent care grant application of $1,267,371.40.
Other items approved included authorization to purchase 7,500 gallons of unleaded gasoline (Ports Petroleum low bid of $3.66 per gallon) for the engineering center and approval of the weekly bills in the amount of $1,478,953.54.
In separate votes, the board approved two necessity resolutions presented by county engineering staff to close Lake Road between Chippewa and Ridgewood for railroad repairs and to close Granger Road for culvert repairs. The board also approved the Medina County Port Authority's request to reissue bonds to refinance an assisted living center originally financed in 2016.
County Administrator Matt Springer presented two additional approvals: acceptance of the Medina County Drug Advisory Committee recommendation for McDack grant funds for program year 2627, totaling $1,847,099 to help fund school resource officers, and acceptance of terms of a new opioid settlement agreement with authorization for the prosecutor's office to act before the filing deadline of 06/04/2026. Both were approved.
All resolutions on the agenda were moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting. The board recorded affirmations on each motion during the roll calls.
