Age‑Friendly Pawtucket task force reports 362 survey responses, outlines five‑year plan
Summary
The city27s Age‑Friendly Pawtucket task force reported 362 community surveys (surpassing a 300-return goal), multilingual outreach, and plans to translate the needs assessment into an action and implementation plan over five years; presenters said AARP funded the analysis and there was no city cost for the research.

Mary Lou Moran, identified in the agenda as the senior center27s director, and Elizabeth (Liz) Marrero briefed the council on early outcomes of the Age‑Friendly Pawtucket initiative.
Moran said the effort began in 2023 and moved into a more active phase last September when a 15-member community task force convened. The group followed AARP/World Health Organization survey domains and reached a baseline of 362 completed surveys, exceeding the project27s 300-survey goal. Moran said the survey examined eight domains of livability, including housing, transportation, health services, civic participation, communication and social inclusion.
Liz Marrero summarized next steps: turn the needs assessment into a comprehensive action plan and then move to implementation over a five-year time horizon. Marrero said the analysis team included academics from Brown and Roger Williams universities and that responses were collected in English, Spanish and Portuguese to increase equitable reach. "The biggest thing that I got out of that analysis is many of the older adults who reached out, 50% of the older adults felt the senior center was their place to go," Marrero said.
Presenters told the council that AARP provided funding for the analytic work and that there was no cost to the city for the research component. Council members thanked the presenters and encouraged continued community engagement as the plan moves into design and implementation.
