Edwardsburg board spotlights teacher Sean Jesse and top-10 graduates

The Edwardsburg Public Schools Board of Education paused routine business to recognize a teacher and the district's top graduating students.
Erin Soucek presented a spotlight on teacher Sean Jesse, describing his long service at Edwardsburg High School since 2010 and his multiple roles in instruction and coaching. "He is a dedicated teacher who is more often than not, the first in the building and the last to leave in the evening," Soucek said, noting Jesse tutors students before and after school, teaches multiple levels of algebra and serves as the EEA president. Soucek and other speakers praised Jesse's patience, creativity and impact on students; the board thanked him for his dedication.
The board also acknowledged the top-10 graduating students for 2026. Mr. Markle introduced the group and named each student, citing activities and postsecondary plans when available: Miles Bickema (plans to attend the University of Michigan, computer engineering), Aidan Dome (Central Michigan University, broadcasting and digital media), Maverick Gates (Taylor University, business management), Luke Kish (Indiana University Bloomington, business marketing), Andrea Lindgren (Southwestern Michigan University then IUSB for nursing), Rowan McLaughlin (Indiana University South Bend, biology), George Scuppam (University of Michigan, biology), Hayden Heemstra (Michigan State University, pre-med), Tanner Craw (Michigan State University, biology), and Micaiah Heflin (Anderson University, softball/volleyball). Board members congratulated the students and invited parents and community members to a photo before they left the meeting.
The superintendent's report that followed included additional recognitions for support staff (bus drivers honored during Bus Driver Appreciation Week), a forthcoming bond open house to show completed secure vestibules and renovations, and plans to unearth a 25-year time capsule at Eagle Lake.
The recognition items were ceremonial and required no formal board vote; they preceded several substantive business items on the agenda.
