After discussing the Power Outage Resiliency Fund pilot, Barnstable County's telecommunications and energy subcommittee moved to future broadband and utility engagement.
Chair Killian said the committee will schedule several meetings and has lined up speakers to discuss broadband implementation and grid resiliency. "We intend to ... bring in many people," the chair said, adding that Steve Tupper and others have been asked to give updates and utilities will be invited to explain progress and constraints.
Vice Chair Delegate Green urged the committee to invite Verizon and OpenCape back to explain the status of previously announced grants and deployments in towns such as Wellfleet. "I haven't heard much about it, so I would like to have Verizon come back," she said.
Committee members said they want utility and state representatives present to answer questions about delivery timelines, barriers to deployment and grid upgrades. The committee did not set firm dates at the meeting but described the effort as a series of sessions to follow up on stalled or incomplete broadband projects.
The committee adjourned after a roll call; staff and the county administrator's office were tasked with arranging the next meetings and notifying invited organizations.
