Mayor Jean Johns read a proclamation designating May 22, 2026 as National Poppy Day and asked residents to join in observing the day to honor those who served and to support living veterans and their families.
"Now I, Mayor Jean Johns, on behalf of the Laguna Niguel City Council, do hereby proclaim and support the designation of 05/22/2026 as National Poppy Day," the mayor said, urging residents to participate in the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Program and noting the program's history since 1921.
An American Legion Auxiliary representative accepted the proclamation and thanked the mayor and the city for recognizing the Auxiliary's work on behalf of veterans and active service members. "Thank you, Mayor Johns, for and the city of Laguna Niguel for recognizing National Poppy Day and the work of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary in service to both veterans, active service members, and their families," the representative said.
