Huntington Co. school board approves HR director, assistant principal and short-term contract services

The Huntington Co Com Sch Corp school board unanimously approved three personnel items during its meeting, appointing Reed Dyer as the district’s director of human resources, naming Jamie Craft assistant principal at Huntington North High School, and authorizing a short-term contracted services agreement with Kenneth Hansen.

Reed Dyer was confirmed by a 5-0 vote after Mr. Wall moved the appointment and the motion was seconded. Dyer, who the board noted has served as a principal the past six years at Flint Springs, told the board she was “deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our district in a new capacity.” She added, “I will be relying heavily on my notes because I’ve had many rehearsals in front of my family,” and said she is committed to leading “with integrity, humility, and a willingness to learn.”

The board also approved Jamie Craft as assistant principal at Huntington North. The hire was presented by district leadership as a recommendation from Dr. Deggetts and won a 5-0 roll-call. Dr. Deggetts read a statement from Craft, who could not attend the meeting because she was at a fifth-grade celebration; the statement thanked the board and described Craft’s seven years leading Roanoke Elementary and her readiness to transition to Huntington North.

Board members praised both appointees during the meeting. Mr. Peters described Dyer (referred to in the discussion as “Brie”) as organized, calm and student-centered, saying those qualities would serve the district well in a central-office role. After the vote on Craft, board members thanked Dr. Deggetts for the recommendation and congratulated Craft on the appointment.

The board also approved a contracted services agreement for Kenneth Hansen covering June 2026 work, described in the meeting as “up to 20 days” at a daily rate. Officials noted there are 22 workdays in June and the district expects Hansen to spend about 15 days with Huntington County and about seven days with North Miami Schools; the board was told Hansen’s formal contract would begin July 1. The contract motion passed 5-0.

All formal motions on these items carried unanimously. In closing remarks members checked on electronic vote registration for one item, offered congratulations to the Class of 2026 and adjourned the meeting.
