Fourth-graders honored: North County Water Agency poster contest winners celebrated at San Dieguito Water District meeting

The San Dieguito Water District recognized fourth-grade winners of the North County Water Agency’s water-awareness poster contest during the meeting’s special presentation. President Jim O'Hara introduced the contest, said the winners’ designs will appear in the North County Water Agency’s 2027 water conservation calendar and invited each student to the front for photos.
O'Hara announced third place went to Emelani Shen of Capri Elementary, who received a $50 Target gift card, a certificate and a tote bag featuring her poster. He introduced second-place winner Harlow Hoke of Ada Harris Elementary, who received a $75 Target gift card and a tote bag. First place was awarded to Summer Chan of Capri Elementary; O'Hara presented a $100 Target gift card and a tote bag honoring her design, which featured a recycling message and a sea turtle.
Students who spoke offered brief statements about why they value water — for example, "Oh, water is life," and "I love water because it helps things live, grow, and have fun." The presentation was ceremonial and the board moved on to regular agenda items after photos and congratulations.
