Adams County parks committee to schedule tours; hears staffing, building and McGinnis Lake updates

The Adams County Property and Recreation Commission asked parks staff to propose dates for site tours so committee members and other interested board members can see facilities and projects in person.
Parks staff said tours have been offered in the past and recommended scheduling options in late summer or early fall; members discussed whether to split tours across days and suggested coordinating a short committee meeting with on-site visits. "We have in the past many times taken tours of the park so that everyone, especially new members ... can come along and see some of the stuff that we have," a parks presenter said.
Staff reported operational updates: seasonal staffing is short—about six positions—heading into Memorial Day weekend; a building project crew has been slowed by delayed plumbing fixtures but remains on track for an August completion; and parks received a quote of about $5,500 to improve the boat launch at McGinnis Lake. "That was, like, $5,500. So to get me approved, we'll probably proceed with that," the presenter said.
Other maintenance items included spring-rain damage to gravel roads and boat landings, a scheduled replacement of a 40-year-old vault-style outhouse next week, and an electrical upgrade to consolidate and improve camping-services power boxes. Staff also noted potential loss of approximately 12 miles of ATV trails linked to a proposed solar project in Rome and said they are looking for ways to preserve contiguous trail mileage.
Cynthia and other committee members discussed logistics and notice requirements for tours, with Cynthia offering to help coordinate once staff propose specific dates. Members agreed staff (Doug and Darren) should put together a couple of afternoon dates, check for conflicts with a county conference, and return with a proposed schedule at the next meeting.
The committee set its next regular meeting for June 18 at 9 a.m.
Next steps: parks staff will prepare date options for tours, pursue the McGinnis Lake quote as appropriate, and return with a schedule and updates at the next committee meeting.
