Hancock County approves hires and conflict waiver, votes to enter executive session on labor talks

The board approved the transfer of Diana V. Benedictus from full-time to part-time legal secretary effective July 3, 2026, and approved hiring Julie Ann Roach of Hancock, Maine, as a legal secretary at a starting pay rate of $23.47 effective May 30, 2026. Both personnel motions were seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board also considered a memorandum noting that the law firm handling county matters provides services to other clients, including China Savings Bank. The chair moved to approve consenting to a conflict waiver and to authorize Greg (referenced in the memo) to continue serving as county counsel; the motion passed by voice vote.
After completing business, the commissioners voted to enter an executive session "on Title 1, section 405, subsection 6" to discuss labor negotiations; the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
The executive session was closed to the public; the board did not take further public action on labor negotiations at the time of the vote. County staff will carry out the employment paperwork and document the conflict-waiver consent in county records.
